UNBIASED BOWLING PUTS MARRICKVILLE ON BOWLING MAP.

Over the weekend of 28/29 August 2010 there five (5) teams entered in the annual Rookies comp. This is for players who have been members of the Royal NSW Bowling Association for 30months or less.

The teams entered by Marrickville were:

Stuart Kennedy (Skip) & Chris Gersbach (Marrickville, Unbiased Bowling)

Stephen Johnson (Skip) & Ashley Brackin (Marrickville)

Graeme Chard (Skip) & Stuart Pullen Unbiased Bowling) Did not play illness.

Gus Siares (Skip) & Ian Clarke (Unbiased Bowling)

James (Jim) Fowler (Skip) & Kevin Chong (Unbiased Bowling)

On the Saturday there were eighteen teams who to play three (3) games  each, This then reduced to five (5) teams who played the quater-finals and then four (4) remaining teame played the semi-finals.

Quarter-Finals were played by West Leagues  and Marrickville (Gus and Ian).

This was a good game for the Marrickville team as they won the game by eight (8) shots. This resulted in the two Marrickville teams matched against each other in the semi-final and the other semifinal was played between Clovelly and Eastlakes.

The game between the Marrickville teams (Gus and Ian and Jim and Kevin) was a very hard fought affair with both teams playing the sort of bowls not seen before from any of the players. Team Gus got away to a good lead and by the half way mark (6 ends) were 3 or 4 shot to the good, then Kevin of team Jim woke up and started to play well and with a little help from Jim reduced their lead to 1 (one ).

By the end of the eleventh end ,Keven leading, sent down two of his best bowls for the day so far to have a bowl sitting each side of the jack. Gus who had the last bowl settled himself and sent down what looked like the killer shot but fortunatey for Team Jim it missed by something less than a millimetre to give the game to Kevin and Jim by one shot.

The final was played against Eastlakes who were playing what looked like their best bowls so far in the comp and they got away to a very good, lead so that by the 8th end the score was 5/12 in favour of Eastlakes

On the 9th end Marrickville scored one shot to take the score to 6/12. On the 10th end Eastlakes took 1 shot to have a score of 6/13, the 11th end with both Marrickville players putting down their best shots of the game got 3 shots to make the score 9/13 with only one end to go.

Marrickville needed 4 shots to tie and get another chance of winning.  Jim had the last bowl and just missed getting the 4th shot needed so the final score was 12/13 in fovour of Eastlakes.

Would everyone please not that in the semi-final Unbiased Bowling had 50% of the players and again in the final they had 50% of the players. Not bad for a group who started with wanting to play social bowls on Sunday.

Peter Manson and I are so pleased and proud of all our people who have taken up the game through Unbiased Bowling. It has made all the work in getting the group going very worthwhile.

Rink 13, Sunday, 15 August.
Andrew, Chris & Jim (A,C&J) were drawn against Geoff, Tony & John(G,T & J).
After a first end of 6 infavour of A,C & J there were rumblings heard in the opposing camp. "Quelle horreur" was noted plus some expletives which don't belong on this sort of website.Yell
After 2 more ends the 2 teams were again even and the universe regained it's stability. In fact, with Tony following John's terse instructions exactly, their team bounded ahead to an 11-6 advantage by the 6th end. But, with Chris consistently hitting the jack their team hit the lead 12-11 by the 8th end.Andrew put a few sizzlers down, at the same time flirting with some of the barefoot bowlers.
Things were tight. Jim's speckled green bowls were too often near the jack. This was a cliffhanger. Geoff, again was sitting on the jack (well, his bowl was). Jim was cursing his immigration into Australia. "Go back to Africa" was heard across the green at several pivotal moments. John, attempting a back bowl, misjudged the wind, stole the jack from Geoff, and gave their opponents 5 shots. But, Geoff, Tony and John were not done with yet. 3 ends to go, 6 shots down. They won the next 3 ends with 1, 3 & 5 shots up to a pipped at the post win of 23-20.
Considering parts of Sydney experienced hailstorms we were lucky to have fine conditions, minimal wind and a fun time for all.

The following report was received from John G , obviously a very proud partner to Chai.

Rookies Report

Over last weekend 14 & 15 August Chai Griffin and his partner from Club Merrylands took out the Zone 10 Rookie Pairs Competition held at Rydalmere Central Club.

Winning 4 out of 5 games in the run up they won both of their games in the Pro-Sectional semi's and then the big one, The Final.

They now proceed to Raymond Terrace later in the year for the State finals.

Congratulations to them both, and good luck in the State Finals.

Chai thanks Unbiased Bowling for his start in the game.

Report ends

This is truly great news as Chai has only been playing for less than 30 months as required by the RNSWBA.

Good luck also to those Unbiased members that will be playing in this competition over the next few week-ends...Jim, Gus, Kevin, Ian and Chris ..I can't help but think that their is someone else ..oh yeah thats right , its me , but having had my knee replacement only 5 weeks ago I had to withdraw..ggrrrrr...

Gotta love this game..

Rink 13

Lucky for some, not for others.

This was a game of Jim and Gus as skips and for a change, no fireworks.Surprised

Malcolm and Gus (skip) played Ian and Jim (skip). It took Ian and jim seven ends to get on the board , in the meantime Malcolm and Gus had shot away to a 14 shot lead.

Gus as usual was bowling very well and playing some great shots. There was also some spectacular bowling from Malcolm.

Eventually Ian got his game going and started to match Gus, while every now and then Jim would send down a couple of good bowls. This enabled Jim's team to slowly make a game of the match. With a final score of 16all.

It was great to see so many UB bowlers with a few Marrickville bowlers on the green.

We had a totoal of 26 players on this very bright and sunny day, this also being after the Saturday Rocky Horror night held at the club with a few of us not getting to bed until after 2am.
